Le sergent s’aperçoit que le soldat Bennett vient d’allumer une cigarette. Il la lui enlève de la bouche.

SERGEANT
You gotta be kidding me, Private. This ain’t no downtime: put that in your mess kit!
(comme à lui-même) How the devil did you boys get here in one piece?
(au loin, courant vers son poste) Now you all just kneel and wait! And keep you damn heads down!

Bennett se remet en position à côté de son camarade, Miles.

BENNETT
Come on! My last cigarette! (voyant Miles sourire) What?

MILES
You’re just a trouble magnet.

BENNETT
Am I now?

SERGEANT
(en off, au loin) Quiet!

BENNETT
My rifle ain’t at the bottom of the English Channel.

MILES
Well, this one will wipe out Jerries all the way to Berlin.

BENNETT
Why don’t you start with one target?

MILES
Don’t you worry: when I take one out, you‘ll be the first to know.
